Darla Denise Glover was born to Muriel Willrich-Guy and Robert Scott on September 18, 1962 in Houston, Texas. She was baptized and attended Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church in Houston. Darla attended Houston ISD schools Hartsfield and Alcott Elementary, Hartman Middle School and she graduated from Jesse H. Jones Sr. High (class of 1981). She further her studies at Texas Southern University where she majored in Accounting. Darla was a studious student with a keen ability for Math (Algebra, Geometry, etc.). She was employed at Weiner’s Department Store, ENRON Corporation, American General Corporation, and Worthing High School where she worked in the Technical Center, Counselor offices and other areas. It was at Worthing High School where she began her life devotion to serving and mentoring people with special needs. For over a decade, Darla would serve in the capacity of coach, chaperon and mentor for Special Olympics. She was also instrumental in getting equal representation for special needs individuals to be part of the school’s homecoming courts. Darla’s compassion to serve and help others lead her to become the CEO of Glover’s Care Facility that encompassed a day habilitation center and two group homes providing care, housing, love and protection to adults with special needs.

While attending TSU and working at Weiner’s Department she met the love of her life Kevin Glover. They were joined in marriage on June 11, 1988 and their union produced three (3) children. She was an employer, friend, and mother to those who needed her. Darla would take anyone into her fold and went out of her way to help if she was aware of a need. She did not know the word NO. Family to all, stranger to no one.

Darla had limitless talents and “gifted hands.” She enjoyed playing games, scrapbooking, sewing, making floral arrangements, braiding hair, arts and crafts and couponing. She especially loved the holidays early morning Black Friday shopping, entertaining family and friends during Christmas going all out with games, buying gifts and food. To meet Darla is to instantly love her easygoing nature, sweet smile and jovial demeanor! She always had time to talk you, and blessed you with her laughter and fun-loving spirit!

Darla was devoted wife to her husband Kevin for 32 years, a loving mother to her sons: Darwyn (Rebecca) and Destin and daughter Devyn Frances; and loving “NeNe” to her precious grandchildren: Dedgrin Draylon, and Draia whom she adored and loved to spoil with more gifts and toys than most and food. A caring daughter in law to Lottie Glover and sister in law, Wanda and a Godmother to Abeni Okusanya and second mother to “daughters” Chan Haymon and Jasmine Richards. Darla was a sister like no other to: Mona Mackey (Gregory) and Tracy Davis (Ronnie) – Cynthia, Soufu, Melvin, and Tonya… the

sweetest aunt, neighbor, niece, cousin, and special friend to Devette Chambers, Katherine Green, Tracy Turner, Karen Meeks, Rhoda Armelin and Carmella Jones for over 40 plus years.

Darla was not just an employer but mother and mentor to her many clients, and loved to take them on field trips to the Rodeo, movies and plan birthday and holiday parties for them as though they were her family.

She gave generously of her time, resources, skills, and helped tirelessly and endlessly all the time. She truly exemplified God’s model of a Christian woman. Darla was taken into Jesus’ arms on October 1, 2020 forever leaving a void in our souls. She is preceded in death by her mother (Muriel), dad (Robert), and child (Darren).

She will always be in our spirit as we were made better because of generosity, unselfishness, beautiful smile and love for all.

To the family, my family.....If I had million words to say it would not be enough to express the sorrow in my heart. We hold tightly to our memories and laughter. Darla had a contagious smile that could light up a room. Darla will be missed but never forgotten. ❤
