Darrell Leslie Newbury Jr., age 74, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2013. Darrell was retired from the City of Houston after 33 years of service. Darrell was a 32nd Degree Mason and Past Master of Garden Oaks Lodge 1306, Past Patron of Oak Forest OES #987 and a member of the Arabia Shrine. He was a Navy veteran who fought in the Vietnam War and served 11 years. Darrell was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara Newbury; parents, Darrell Newbury Sr. and Ruth Spinello (Dominick Spinello Sr.); brother, Robert Newbury; sister, Linda Darlene Borsch. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cindy Roman Newbury; his loving sons: James Newbury (Sharon), Kenneth Newbury (Kay); step-sons: Jeff Magee (Shawn), Chris Magee; grandchildren: Kourtney Newbury, Kevin Newbury (Amber), Matthew Newbury, Thomas Newbury, Bryce Magee; great grandchild: Dixie Faith Newbury; sisters: Lettie Stanley (George), Betty Hunter (Larry), Patsy Jones (Roy); brothers: Walter Newbury (Susan), and Dominick Spinello Jr. (Sandra). Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Kevin Newbury, Thomas Newbury, Matthew Newbury, William Dean Mobley, Henry Newbury, Ray Beale, Pete Araiza and Mark Stanley. The family would like to thank the staff at Houston Hospice as well as their good friend Susan Smith for their love and tender care of Darrell. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19th from 6 PM – 8 PM. Services will be Friday, September 20th at 2 PM at Brookside Funeral Home Family Chapel. Interment will follow in Brookside Memorial Park. The family suggest memorials be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 6927 Main, Houston, Texas 77030.

My friend Cindy......I just realized Darrell had passed. I know exactly what you are going through. I pray the hospice people were as good to you as they were to me. You are in that stage to get all the paper work settled. Oh my friend....let me know if you need anything. I am retired now and at home. Our hubbies were the good friends we were from the beginning. We are very sorry to hear of Uncle Darrell's passing. He was a wonderful man and always so great to others. It has been so long since I have last seen him, but he will never be forgotten. We are sorry we were not able to attend.
