David 93, was born September 11, 1927 in Houston Texas and left his house of flesh and entered into that eternal peace and rest in the presence of the Lord on Wednesday December 9, 2020 after contracting Covid Pneumonia the week before. He passed peacefully in his sleep. He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Gladys Dacke. His brother Lloyd Oliver Dacke Jr., His daughter Diana Dacke Powell and his son Darrell Dee Dacke.
He is survived by his wife Letha Mae Dacke of Livingston Texas, Son-in-law David Powell of Elkhart Indiana, Sister-in-law Lucille Nix of Lufkin Texas, Brother-in-law Jimmy (Roma) Smith of Houston Texas. Grandchildren Heather and husband Rob Cavanaugh, Clay and wife Kristin Powell, Seth Powell, Justin Dacke, Holly Dacke, Preston Dacke, and Tori Dacke, and Great Grandchildren, Davina, Josiah, Jordan, Riley, Cameron, and Cain.
David joined the Navy at the age of 18 and remained for two years. He was on board the USS Cumberland Sound as a ship fitter and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. After returning home from the Navy he went to work at the Houston Shipyard employed by Parker Brothers as a welder for quite a few years. He left Parker Brothers to take over the ownership f Pin Oak Egg Farm in Northeast Houston in 1967. He and Letha had the farm furnishing eggs to several area supermarkets and customers coming to the egg farm to purchase. They retired in 1991 and moved to a place on Lake Livingston. David did some welding for a while for Custom Power in his early retirement years. He had always enjoyed hunting and fishing, hunting for deer, turkeys, and squirrels with a lot of time through the years spent at the deer lease in West Texas. Fishing became his passion and there were many many pictures of his catch, especially the catfish, one of those being a 70 pound catfish.
He also loved to garden and at one time at the farm had a acre planted in okra he sold at the egg farm. At the homes in Livingston they always had fresh vegetables he would grow.
The story of his life is wrapped around his one true love, Letha Mae. He walked her to school back when they were younger and after returning from the Navy began their courtship and married Letha in 1949 at Stonewall Pentecostal Church. He only had eyes for Letha even though there were plenty of girls trying to get the eye and attention of the tall lean good looking very handsome dark haired soldier man. In March of 2020 they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.
On Fathers Day in 1956 he received the ultimate best Fathers Day gift in the form of a beautiful little girl Diana Marcell who loved her Daddy until her passing in 2014.
He was a faithful honest man of integrity who loved and served God. He was the Sunday School Superintendent for 10 years at Stonewall Pentecostal Church and during this time they had big Easter egg hunts with the eggs provided by the farm and also the hunt was held at the egg farm with a dinner on the ground following the hunt for all the church. He became a faithful member of the 1st UPC in Livingston after moving to the lake. When there was a church service going on they were there even when he was restricted to a wheelchair.
He will be lovingly remembered especially by his wife and family and by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks for all the friendship, kindness, flowers, meals, but especially for all the prayers.
