David L. Jones of Cypress, Texas passed away September 4th, 2018 from complications of COPD. He was born in Berkeley, California on March 21st, 1945 to Ralph L. Jones of Alpena Pass, Arkansas and Garnet L. (Robinson) Jones of Yardell, Akansas. The family moved to Texas not long after his birth and David spent his life there, in East and Southeast Texas. He graduated from Westbury High School in Houston, Texas. David was then drafted into the Army and served during the Vietnam War, stationed at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam.

David lived in the Dallas area, helping care for his mother, as her Alzheimer’s declined. When his health took a turn, his children moved him to the Houston area, so they could care for him. He spent the last five years enjoying time with family and church family while growing closer to the Lord while and attending Houston First Church of the Nazarene.

He had a passion for discovery and was a member of Golden Triangle Explorer Society and the Dallas Gem & Mineral Society. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He loved campfires, rain on a tin roof, and loved to lie in a hammock, drink a cup of coffee and eat chocolate while watching the hummingbirds. He had a passion for exploring history with his metal detector and seeing what “finds” he might come across. He also enjoyed coin collecting and reading. He was an avid jazz lover. He desired to get his pilot’s license, but was unable to complete the training. David was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his daughters and their families. He loved his grandkids! He is survived by; his daughter Theresa Hadaegh of Cypress, Texas, her husband Farid and their daughter Hadassah; and daughter Janette Cooke of Houston, Texas, her husband Scott, Janette’s daughter Jasmine Lansi and her wife Ana. He is also survived by, his brother Terry Jones of Allen, Texas and his family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the medical communities at Texas Institute for Clinically Complex Care and North Cypress Medical Center for the wonderful care they’ve given dad these past years. You have become family. We would also like to thank Vantage Hospice for the special end-of-life care you helped walk dad and our family through during this precious time. You are greatly appreciated, and have helped to give us many special memories. Thank you for loving dad and helping us care for him, what sweet years we have had.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests generic gifts cards as a way to show our appreciation for the loving way dad’s caregivers have taken care of him. The family will personally deliver the gifts to his professional caregivers. Cards can be sent to:

Love that picture of our dads! I’m confident Dad welcomed him with open arms and they’ve already caught up with each other over a cup of coffee! Praying for y’all through this bittersweet time.
