

He was also a brother and uncle. He is preceded in death by his parents, C.J. and Lorene Mensik. He is survived by his brothers Donnie Mensik, Michael and Gail Mensik, and his sisters Debbie and Robert Sorge and Michele Jankowski. He had numerous nieces and nephews Duane and Laurie Mensik (Dalton and Lexi (Kayson and River), Emily, Kyle and Weston), Daryl and Lollie Mensik (Brady and Brecklyn), Lauren and Ben Herbst (Yvonne), Jason and Jennifer Mensik (Madison, Ty and Nash), Christy and Jeff Adams (Colby and Tinley), Robert, Jr. and Kimberly Sorge (Gavin (Saturn) and Nolan), Garrett and Paige Sorge (Cooper and Ripley), Chelsea and Austin Hatley (Everett), Redding and Catcher Jankowski. He is also survived by Uncle Fabian Gorka, Aunt Lois Dierschke, and Aunt Dorothy Mensik. He is also survived by numerous cousins.
He was a pet lover and considered his 7 dogs (Lightning, Bonnie, Clyde, Fetch, Pumpkin, Rosie and Rudy) and 1 cat (Sabrina) as his family. His love for animals extended beyond his own. He would always find and rescue dogs and cats.
He attended Holy Name Catholic School, Burbank Junior High and graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1973. He was a machinist for Bowen Tools and was a great machinist. He also worked for the Port Terminal Railroad as a switchman. He always accepted overtime at the railroad. During his later career he worked for the Houston Chronicle as a distributor. After retiring he became a full-time animal lover and caregiver to stray animals.
In his younger days he enjoyed music, especially Elvis Presley. He also enjoyed dancing at Bill Mraz Ballroom. He liked singing, especially Proud Mary at every wedding he attended (only if the band let him on stage). David was a stranger to no one. He always took time to talk with everyone and had a gift of gab. Some people would say he was a smooth talker.
The family would like to thank Danielle Petrowski and her family that were always lending a helping hand. Also, we would like to thank his other friends in the neighborhood that helped him.
His last selfless act was a donation to Life Gift.
The Celebration of Life will be on October 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. starting with a rosary and a reception following with a light lunch.
