

David Burton Roemer entered eternal rest on December 5, dedicated in the faith that Jesus Christ is his personal Lord and Savior. Known affectionately by his family as “Hoggy”, he had a great sense of humor and always had a good story. David was born in Houston, Texas to Eula Burton Hilliard and Oscar David Roemer. He went to Lamar High School and was always involved in sports along with his brother, Lamar. He played basketball and tennis and was very successful on his teams. He won many tennis tournaments as a junior including Texas State champion in singles. He played number 1 one for LSU tennis after getting many scholarship offers for basketball and tennis.
David served in the Marines after college and was stationed in California after going through basic training. He had a great respect for the Marines throughout his life.
David also enjoyed fishing and took many trips to the Texas coast over the years.
He loved golf and for a big part of his life he played at Tennwood Golf Club every Friday with his neighbors and good friends. He continued to play golf whenever he had the chance.
Whatever his activity, he put in his best effort and was successful in many areas of his life. He had a natural rapport with people and could start a conversation with anyone he met.
His family was very important to him and he made sure that he kept up relationships with not only his children but also his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
David was a diligent student of Holy Scripture and actively involved with St. Martins Episcopal Church for many years. Survivors include his children, Stephanie Brown, Karen Harper, and Hilary Roemer; his brother, Lamar Roemer; stepfather, Paul Hilliard, grandchildren, Lucy Harper, Katherine Harper, Scott Harper, Madeline Brown, Ethan Brown, Nicholas Brown, and Sophie Brown; nieces and nephews, Kimberly Bini, Kristen Abernathy, Katherine Kinard, Lauren Morgan, L.B. Roemer Jr., Max Roemer, and Leslie Labanowsky
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Elizabeth Kinard; aunt, Mary DeMotte; uncle, Edwin T. Burton Jr.
Funeral services will be held on January 4th at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church and Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home.
