David Christopher Smith

David Christopher Smith was all of these things, and more. David, or “Kit” as his family and close friends called him, had a way of leaving a lasting impression not just through his character, but through his quiet acts of kindness, his perfectly timed humor, and the genuine care he showed to everyone around him. His sudden passing on October 9, 2025, has left an indescribable void in the lives of his family, friends, colleagues and all who were lucky enough to know him.

David was born on September 9, 1976 in Pasadena, Texas to David Baynard Smith and Sherry Lynn Bauer. He spent his childhood all over the country and world, including Georgia, Tennessee, France, Australia, and South Florida, where his family, including his beloved paternal grandmother, “Mema,” helped him cultivate his lifelong love of the outdoors, especially fishing.

He had a deep appreciation for the natural world — from quiet mornings spent fishing to kayaking on rivers, lakes and even ponds. David was endlessly curious, adventurous at heart, and happiest outdoors with the people he loved.

A dedicated student, David graduated from the University of Houston’s Honors College, with a BS in Finance. He continued on to Texas A&M University and earned an MS in Finance. He had a successful career as a highly respected equity research analyst covering oil field services companies for nearly 25 years. His deep industry expertise, work ethic and out of the box thinking earned him the moniker, “Rig Whisperer,” from his colleagues.

David and his wife, Nadine Moustafa, were married for over 13 years. They shared a passion for travel, music, and a deep commitment to their family. Whether exploring new destinations or enjoying concerts together, their commitment was marked by love, laughter, and a strong foundation built around their children and each other. David was delighted to welcome his twin sons, Layth and Zain, with Nadine and introduce them to his older children from a previous marriage, Audrey and Speir.

David’s priority and commitment was always to his family first, second and third. He had extremely close and individual relationships with each of his very different four children and always met them where they were. He cherished the friendships he developed with his older children. He never pushed any of the kids overtly, but he knew how to encourage them to become the best versions of themselves. He was adamant that he never wanted any of his kids to be anyone other than themselves, knowing that was the key to a happy and fulfilling life.

David was a great team player both on and off the field. He was a dedicated mentor, leading by example with patience and integrity both as a coach to his sons’ sports teams and a supportive colleague. He inspired those around him through his commitment, knowledge, and steady presence.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Nadine, his four children, Audrey, Speir, Layth, and Zain, and his parents, David Smith and Sherry Bauer, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024.

Supporting these causes is a meaningful way to honor the values he lived by — thoughtfulness, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility to others.
