In 1943 he graduated from Oran High School and married La Donna Sue Henson. They were married over 70 years until she passed away in 2014. They had 4 children.
Dawson served our country during 2 wars. He entered the Army in 1944, served in WWII, attended Officer Candidate School and was discharged in 1947 as a 2nd LT. In 1950 he was called back into active duty as a 1st LT. in the Korean War and was discharged in 1953.
After being discharged from active duty, he and Donna moved to Wichita, KS where he held a full time job and attended Wichita State University. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. As an engineer he participated in the design and implementation of several proprietary pneumatic and hydraulic systems used in the aircraft and oil & gas industries.
In his later years, he developed a specialized fuel filtration system for diesel generators which was used to service backup power systems for area hospitals.
Dawson was also an avid golfer, successfully participated in many tournaments. He also taught the game to many students.
Son Ronald Cook preceded him in death in 1992. He is survived by brother, Donald Cook of St. Louis. Also survived by 3 children, Sue Baker & husband Byron Baker, Richard Cook & Wife Rhonda Cook, Matthew Cook & Wife Gale Cook, 4 grandchildren Derek Layher, Kori Lucas, Adam & Sara Cook. 2 great grandchildren Gracie Layher and Jaxin Lucas
