It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of DeEtte DuPree Nesbitt, age 82, who left this world peacefully on the 19th of April 2024, surrounded by the warmth and devotion of her loving son and granddaughter.
DeEtte was a remarkable woman — a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend — known to all for her generous spirit, sharp mind, and kind heart. She had a rare gift for making everyone feel seen and valued, and her legacy of love and compassion will continue to touch the lives of those she leaves behind.
Her lifelong passions for genealogy and history were more than hobbies; they were the ways in which she connected with the past and honored the stories of those who came before. In 2017, she founded the Order of the Monarchs of Rheims, a lasting testament to her dedication and vision. She was honored as Regent Emerita, in perpetuity, and named First Dame of the Order of St. Denis — tributes to a life spent lifting others and preserving what matters most. These achievements were a testament to her unwavering curiosity, leadership, and commitment to preserving history.
DeEtte’s memory lives on through her beloved son, C. Scott Nesbitt, and her cherished granddaughter, Luna J. Nesbitt, who will carry her spirit, strength, and love into the future. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her and loving her.
She now joins in eternal peace her parents, Alice L. Cade Foster and Raymond DuPree, her beloved sister, DeAnna Dupree Walker, her loving husband, Ernest V. Nesbitt, and her dear daughter, Alice L. Massey. While our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that DeEtte is reunited with those she loved and that her beautiful spirit endures.
Rest peacefully, dear Mom. You will be forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered.
