HIS EARTHLY REIGN
Judge William Buggs was born in Homer, Louisiana on October 7, 1932 to the late John Crawford Buggs, Sr., and Tibatha Turner Buggs. He was the youngest of eight boys and one girl.
Judge accepted Christ at an early age at the St. Paul Freewill Community Church. He graduated from Homer High School and later served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On May 24, 1960, Judge married Jerlene Spivey, and the two journeyed immediately to Houston, Texas. To their union, three children were born; Ronnie William, Carlotta ReNae, and Donald Keith.
Deacon Judge Buggs worked for a period in the construction industry and was later employed by Fleming Foods Distributions where he retired after 26 years of service. He was an excellent provider and instilled the words “rise and shine” as he steered his children and taught them to preserve and build for the future. Judge enjoyed fishing, gardening, and hunting. He loved sharing the bearings of his vegetable garden, especially his okra, greens, and cucumbers.
Deacon Judge Buggs loved his wife and family dearly and led by example as a positive influence and supporter of his children, grandchildren, family, church family, neighbors, and friends. He extended his home and care-taking to many family members, among some: his niece and nephew Cynthia and Dennis Spivey. He also provided many years of care to his late mother-in-law; Mary Ella Spivey. He demonstrated and instilled a legacy of traits such as caring and serving that will be remembered for many generations.
HIS CHURCH LIFE
In Houston, Judge was one of the initial and pillar members of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, now First Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful steward for many years and served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and Superintendent of Sunday School; and he contributed many years of labor and skills as a painter, carpenter, custodian, and always serving as needed. Deacon Buggs had a deeply embedded passion for visiting the sick and shut-in and serving the aging and elderly.
THE DEPARTURE
During the evening hours of Wednesday, May 8, 2013, surrounded by his wife and children, the Lord spoke to Judge, “Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant”; and beckoned him home that he should rest from his Earthly Labour.
Judge was preceded in death by his sister, Lillie Pearl Buggs-Levingston (Solomon), and five brothers; George Buggs, Sr. (Velma), John C. Buggs, Samuel Buggs (Willie B.), Houston Buggs (Essie-Mae), and Ben Buggs.
