Debbie was born in Oakland, California on the 10th of June 1963, to Dean H. Maddox and Janet E. Maddox. Debbie and family moved to Houston, Texas in 1969 and Houston and Texas became Debbie’s adopted and much loved home.
Growing up Debbie was a ‘girly girl’ (we will always think about her Raggedy Ann and Andy and other dolls) but never so much that she couldn’t play “army”, kickball and other street games with all the kids in the neighborhood.
Debbie graduated from Houston Memorial Senior High School in 1981 and was a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Education. During her time at Texas, Debbie was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
Debbie’s adult life revolved around art and voluntary service. She taught at Valley Oaks in SBISD for many years. Debbie was an active supporter and worker for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and the Houston Texas Ex’s. Even later in her life after retiring for health reasons, she volunteered her time to
art programs and at Memorial Herman Memorial City Hospital. Debbie loved animals. One of the happy thoughts the family has is of Debbie being reunited with her best friend and “fur baby”, Roxie, who she loved and missed so much.
Debbie’s life was impacted by several physical challenges along her life path. But, we are so proud of her because she never gave up…she never stopped loving and she never stopped wanting to give back and to others.
Debbie is survived by her father, Dean; her sister, Becky (Mark and Lilly); her brother, Dan (Lori, Andy, Tyler and Brooke); and stepson, Zack. A special thank you to all of the friends and neighbors that were like family to her. Those friendships were so important to her and she cherished each one.
A memorial service is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 31st of July, in the Chapel at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston, where the Reverend Joy Johnston is to officiate.
Immediately following, all will be invited to greet the family at a reception to be held in nearby Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you contribute to the good works of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (rodeohouston.com ), the Texas Ex’s Scholarship Fund (texasexes.org ) or the charity of your choice.
