Delma Brown Miller was born December 16, 1952, in Puerto Rico, and was raised in San Clemente, California by Robert and Patricia Brown. From a young age, she and her brother Bobby helped out at their father’s hotel, the Algodon. In their spare time, they loved surfing, skateboarding, and riding mini-bikes. Delma always dreamed of her days on the beach in California, where she grew into the woman we all knew and loved.
Delma achieved her GED by correspondence from American Schools, followed by a certificate in Nursing Assistance. After moving to Houston, Delma married Randy Miller in May of 1977, and had a daughter, Shonna, in 1979. Delma worked at a variety of jobs, including home health care, stocking at K-Mart, security guard, and crossing guard.
Delma lived her life to the absolute fullest, taking advantage of all the opportunities for fun she could. She loved fishing, camping, playing guitar, riding motorcycles, go-karts, and three-wheelers, hang-gliding, riding horses, driving big trucks, and even taking flying lessons. She was a hands-on mom, including Shonna in as many of the above activities as possible, as well as coaching Shonna’s childhood softball team. Delma was always bringing home strays, animals and people alike. There was a revolving door of dogs and cats in their home for decades, along with scores of small mammals, reptiles, birds, and one very special cougar. In addition to the animals she cared for, she enthusiastically loved everyone who showed up. Everyone was family to Delma, as many of her and Shonna’s friends can attest.
Delma passed on to her next big adventure on March 14, 2025. She is survived by her husband Randy Miller, her brother Robert Brown and sister-in-law Donna, her daughter Shonna Miller and son-in-law Stephen Alford, her nephews, Charles and Matthew Brown, and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Cindy and Vickie Brown.
