Demetrio married at the young age of 24 to his former wife, Dolores Mata. During their 13 years together, they were blessed with twin daughters, Diana Barrios Forero and Denise Barrios Long, who remained a proud and cherished part of his life.
From 1964 to 1967, Demetrio proudly served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. He carried great pride in his service to his country and often shared stories and photographs from those meaningful years. His time in the Army shaped him in many ways, and that pride never faded.
After the end of his first marriage, Demetrio found love again with Angela Lopez, and they built a life together rooted in devotion and family. They welcomed a son, Demetrio Barrios Jr., and he lovingly raised Gabriel Xavier Solis as his own. To Demetrio, family was not just important — it was everything.
He treasured time spent with loved ones. Whether he was playing cards or dominoes, listening to music, dancing, or simply relaxing while telling stories, he had a way of bringing laughter and life into every room. His stories, his humor, and his presence made ordinary moments unforgettable.
Demetrio will always be remembered for stepping out dressed sharply from head to toe. No matter the occasion, he took pride in looking his best — polished shoes, crisp clothes, and a confidence that was entirely his own. He carried himself with style, dignity, and quiet strength.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Jesusa; his father, Alcario Sr.; Julia Barrios; his brother, Simon Barrios; his precious grandson, Stephen Aurelio Forero; and his brothers-in-law, Nick T. Munoz, Rufino Jaramillo, and Pedro Sommerlatte. Though they have gone before him, we find comfort in knowing they are reunited.
Demetrio is survived by his devoted wife, Angela Barrios; his children, Diana Barrios Forero and her husband Joe, Denise Barrios Long and her husband Randy, Demetrio Barrios Jr., and Gabriel Xavier Solis and his wife Wendy. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
He is further survived by his siblings: Rosa Hernandez; Mary Lou Munoz; Jane Jaramillo; Jesse Barrios and his wife Becky; Rudy Barrios and his wife Sandra; Delores Sanchez and her husband Lupe; Hortencia Sommerlatte; Robert Barrios; Gable Barrios; Albert Barrios and his wife Ida; and Alcario Barrios Jr.
Demetrio also leaves behind 23 nieces and nephews and 38 great-nieces and great-nephews who will continue to carry his memory forward.
Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the love, laughter, strength, and style he shared so generously. His legacy lives on in each of us, and he will forever be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
