A proud direct descendant of Miles Standish and the Mayflower voyage, Denise’s family heritage was woven into the very fabric of America. She grew up as a military child to a distinguished Marine Corps Officer and Naval Academy graduate, instilling in her the values of service, discipline, and adaptability that would guide her throughout her remarkable life.
Denise’s professional journey was marked by both corporate achievement and creative passion. She served in senior management for HP/Compaq and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from LeTourneau University. Yet her true calling was found in the classroom, where she spent many fulfilling years as an art teacher with Cy-Fair Independent School District, inspiring countless students to discover their own creativity and love of art.
A woman of many passions, Denise was an avid follower of politics, a devoted #1 fan of the Houston Astros, and a cherished friend to many. She treasured time spent with her beloved cats, particularly her faithful companion, Miss Kitty.
Denise is survived by her daughters Jessica Warden and Jeanette Flugrad; sons-in-law Travis Warden and George Flugrad; grandchildren Jacquelyn, Harris, George IV, and James; and siblings Lisa, Michele, John, and Lolly. She was a devoted mother, a proud grandmother, and a loving sister whose warmth, intelligence, and zest for life touched all who knew her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her friends who cared for and supported not only Denise but her family through this difficult time. Denise was a shining beacon who always sought out the good in people. She was a beautiful person who accomplished tremendous things in her life; if you were to ask what her biggest accomplishment was, she would undoubtedly say her daughters.
Her legacy of creativity, dedication, and love will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many students whose lives she enriched.
