Diana May Bauer

Born in Missouri on June 19, 1948, Diana’s family moved to Kerman, California when she was a child. Mrs. Bauer had fond and many funny memories of growing up as one of six children in the Brock household.

In 1967, she met and married Tom Bauer with whom she shared two children. Though they would later separate, the pride and love they had for their children would last both of their lifetimes.

Across 78 years of love, life, and laughter, Diana was known for her strong work ethic, creativity, competitive spirit, and a stubborn twinkle in her eye.

Diana’s early professional experience began as a hairstylist in Fresno, California. While her professional journey would ultimately lead elsewhere, the skills she developed as a hairstylist would find application across her lifetime through her own evolving hairstyles, manicures, hair color changes, and style evolutions for her daughter and granddaughters.

In 1977, Diana embarked on a new professional path with the Kerman Unified School District Food Services Department. Over the course of nearly 30 years, she served the district with dedication and leadership, climbing through promotions and eventually retiring as Director of Food Services and manager of the district's Central Kitchen. Diana took great pride in the success of the food services program under her leadership but was always quick to credit the dedicated kitchen staff who helped make that success possible. She spoke fondly of her team throughout her retirement and believed their hard work, commitment, and care for students were essential to the department’s accomplishments.

Outside of work, Diana enjoyed a wide variety of pursuits. She was an accomplished cook, seamstress, and crafter. In 1994, she undertook one of her most ambitious creative projects by hand-sewing all the bridesmaid dresses for her daughter Kimberly's wedding. Made from two different materials and accessorized with elbow length gloves and sparking jewelry, the bridal party looked elegant and tailored on Kimberly’s special day, and Diana’s contributions remain a treasured memory for the family.

Diana was also an avid golfer whose retirement years were filled with countless rounds on the course. When her daughter and grandchildren relocated to Portland, Oregon in 2001, Ms. Bauer followed and soon developed several lasting new friendships, camaraderie, and competition with fellow members of the Oregon City Golf Club (including Betty, Linda,

Sharon, Nancy, and Sue). Even after Diana’s move to Houston, Texas in 2013, the group sustained their friendship across the miles.

More than any hobby or accomplishment, Diana treasured her beloved family. Through the years, the love and pride for her son, Tom and her daughter Kim, grew to also include four grandchildren (McKenna, Cassidy, Ella, and Dillon). Throughout 25 years of retirement, she treasured the opportunity to live close to her daughter, son-in-law, and four grandchildren whom she loved immeasurably.

Tragically, in 2019, Diana and the entire family mourned the passing of daughter Kimberly, after a five-and-a-half-year battle with breast cancer.

She also grieved the death of her brothers Rod and Daniel Brock who preceded her.

Diana is survived by her son, Tom Bauer and his wife, Annette, of Fresno, California; her son-in-law, Cameron Dickey of Cypress, Texas; her grandchildren, McKenna Dickey, Cassidy Anderson and her husband Justin, Ella Dickey, and Dillon Dickey; her siblings, Ron Brock and his wife Carmen, Kay Rodriguez and her husband Julien, and Raylene Gonzales and her husband Gary; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Diana will be remembered for her love, devotion, and generosity with family & friends… her creativity, her competitive spirit on (and off) the golf course, and the lasting impact she made on the many lives she touched.

Mrs. Bauer’s family intends to honor her life and passing privately, consistent with her wishes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her honor to the Kimberly A. Dickey Memorial Scholarship which is administered by her family through Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union, or to Youth on Course to provide young people with access to life-changing opportunities through golf.
