Diane Hedi Goodwin, 79, of Magnolia, Texas, passed away on October 28, 2026. She was born on April 23, 1947, to Sherman and Viola Gordon. Hedi’s life was guided by her deep compassion and poured out in radiant devotion for the people entrusted to her heart.
Hedi grew up in El Paso, where she graduated from Burges High School. It was there, just before her senior year, that she met the love of her life, Toby. From that point on, they were inseparable. Hedi and Toby shared 61 years of marriage—decades marked by steadfast commitment, a rich shared history, and the quiet strength of choosing one another day after day.
In 1976, Hedi graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) with a Bachelor of Science in Education, beginning a fulfilling 27-year career in teaching. She gave her time and attention to generations of children with a spirit that made room for each individual. She spent the final three years of her career at Bellville Intermediate School, showing up with patience, warmth, and a faithful sense of purpose.
Outside the classroom, Hedi found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved playing cards and dominoes with friends, and treasured traveling and cruising to destinations that delighted her spirit. Every journey was made richer by the company she kept and the love she carried with her.
Above all, Hedi loved being a grandmother. She cherished having her grandkids over, spending every possible moment with them, and never missing the events that mattered to them. She always showed up—present, attentive, and overflowing with love. Hedi simply loved children in every role life gave her: as a mother to her own kids, as a grandmother, and as a teacher. Each child was important to her, and each was held with the same gentle care.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Toby Goodwin; her children, Jennifer Goodwin and her spouse Debra Garcia, Jeff Goodwin and his spouse Cathy, her grandchildren, Kayla Hennigan and her spouse Austin and Kevin Goodwin and her great-grandson, Lane Hennigan.
Hedi was deeply loved and cherished. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched—through kindness given freely, and a love that made others feel seen, safe, and valued.
