Mrs. Nelson was born on July 31, 1932 to Parker and Margaret Talley. She was the third child of fourteen kids born into this family. They lived on Cason Street in West University in Houston. The Talley family was well known in the area. The Houston Press published an article about the family in 1950 due to the families growing size and great reputation in the community.
Dolores attended St. Vincent De Paul Catholic School through the 8th grade and then completed high school at Incarnate Word Academy and graduated in 1951. On September 18, 1954 she married Henry William Nelson (Bill) at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church and they were married for 49 years until he passed away. Most of Dolores’ life was spent as a homemaker, loving wife, and full time mother to her 5 children, Billy, Mikey, Katie, Angel and Matt. Dolores raised all 5 kids and she lived in the same home for approximately 55 years in Sharpstown.
Dolores was a big fan of sports in general but especially Houston sports along with the New Orleans Saints. She was known for her great passion around her teams and could hold her own with any man who wanted to talk sports. Even in her final days, she watched the NBA Finals with great excitement and enthusiasm. She certainly arrived in heaven as a MVP.
Dolores was loved by everyone she came in contact with. She was truly an angel on earth and she was the most unselfish and caring person. She was a very unique and special individual who made a positive impact on everyone she came in contact with. Dolores will be greatly missed but the legacy she left behind will be carried out and remembered by all that knew and loved her. The gates of heaven opened up for Dolores on June 23, 2011 and knowing she is with God and reunited with family and friends gives us all great comfort.
