Donald (Tinker) Peterson passed away in his sleep November 17, 2023 in The Reserve at Katy Assisted Living. Prior to this, he had lived in Montgomery, Texas for nine years after taking such good care of his mother in the family home. Donald was a graduate of Memorial High School. He was stationed on the Kitty Hawk Carrier in the Pacific Ocean during the Viet Nam War. Later, Don did construction work. He was always ready to help anyone in need. Don became an excellent acoustical guitar player. His favorite musician was James Taylor.
Don was the youngest of a family of five boys and one girl. He was called Tinker, because he played with Tinker Toys on the kitchen floor as a little boy. The yard was his paradise where he could play with brother Tito, and neighbors Tom and Al. The Peterson house and yard in Hunter’s Creek was usually filled with noisy children. It was hard for Don when the older Peterson children moved out for college.
His daughter, Rebecca and grandchildren, Vivian and Henry were so important to him. Their visit a few months before his death was a special event he did not forget.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; Mary Jo and Russ Peterson; brothers Ronald and Tito Peterson. He leaves behind his daughter Rebecca Westerkom and husband Andrew of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Vivian and Henry Westerkom; brothers, Ralph and wife LaTrelle Peterson of Austin, TX, Paul and wife Cherry Peterson of New Braunfels, TX; sister Mary Chris Peterson of Houston, TX and many other family and friends.
Visitation will be at 9:30 am and a Memorial Service at 10:00 am January 6, 2024 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, Houston, TX.
