It is with great joy that we reflect on the life and celebrate the legacy of our beloved husband, devoted daddy, grandfather, great-grandfather, cherished friend, and faithful servant of God, Donnie Ray Gigout.
Donnie spoke often and openly about his homegoing and his personal encounter with the Lord, which he shared just three weeks before his passing. With peace in his heart, he said, “I can see the bend in the road.”
Donnie was called home on June 6, 2025, at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 6 days.
He was born on February 8, 1948, in Baytown, Texas, to Jacqueline Wanda Cowey Gigout and Lloyd Weldon Gigout.
Donnie spent most of his childhood on “The Hill,” making cherished memories with his siblings and cousins—memories he would recount with deep fondness.
Following the death of his grandfather, Reverend C.M.A. Cowey, Donnie’s family moved to Tarkington Prairie to help support his grandmother in pastoring Highway Tabernacle Assemblies of God Church. Donnie loved those years of walking barefoot down dirt roads, fishing, chasing his pet goat out of the church nursery, and spending time with his Granny and neighborhood friends.
Donnie lived a life marked by honor, humility, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. He deeply loved God’s Word, his family, and his friends.
He found great joy in his calling to win souls, preach the gospel, and teach about God’s goodness and mercy. A man of deep conviction and a servant’s heart, Donnie served faithfully in various A/G churches throughout his life—as a youth pastor, street preacher, and teacher of the Word. He also ministered through music, writing songs, singing, preaching, and playing bass as part of the gospel quartet, The Gospel Messengers.
Donnie was a devoted husband to Bettye Joe Daigle Gigout—BJ, as he lovingly called her. Married for 56 years and 6 months, their union was rooted in Christ, marked by grace, selflessness, forgiveness, and enduring love. Together they built a home full of laughter and compassion.
Donnie was a deeply involved and loving Daddy to Lacy and Cherith, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and boldness that continues to inspire.
Professionally, Donnie worked for Rohm and Haas Refinery for 43 years. Starting as a certified welder, he was promoted to Quality Control Manager in 1990. He took great pride in his career and used his platform in the oil and gas industry to witness to others, never shy about asking, “Do you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior?”
Donnie was also a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War from May 1968 to January 1970 in the Mechanized Infantry and Engineering.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reverend and Mrs. C.M.A. Cowey, his parents, Jacqueline Wanda Cowey Gigout and Lloyd Weldon Gigout, his brother Lloyd Michael Gigout, his sister Pamela Fawvett Gigout Buras, and his sister-in-law Jennifer Gigout.
He is survived by his devoted wife BJ, beloved daughters Lacy Gigout Martinez & husband Raul and Cherith Gigout; his grandchildren Jade & Seth Kirkland, Mika & Jacob Boniol, MaKenzie Stout & Jace, Ros Martinez, Kingston Joseph, and Karoline Stevens; and great-grandchildren Liam & Ainsley Kirkland, Easton, Ellie & Grant Boniol, and Ridge Martinez.
Donnie is also survived by his sister Linda Kay Gigout Walker and brother-in-law James Walker, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and treasured friends.
If you’re sitting here today, it’s likely because Donnie touched your life—or even led you to the Lord.
Though we deeply feel the absence of his physical presence, we do not grieve as those without hope. We take solace in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and the blessed assurance that we will see him again.
