She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Herbert Benson. Dorothy and Herbert owned and operated Lietzke Bakery which her father originally started in Minneapolis. When they sold the bakery in 1975, they retired to Port Isabel, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Hawkinson (Houston, TX); and son, Robert Benson and wife Susan (Eagle River, AK). She has three grandchildren, Cheryl Garza (Houston, TX), Ethan Benson (Eagle River, AK) and Zach Lamont (Anchorage, AK); and six great-grandchildren, Kristilyn, Jeremy, Joshua, Courtney, Caylee and Lexi.
Dorothy has been living with her daughter Carol in Houston, TX since 2000.
Funeral arrangements will be provided by Brookside Funeral Home.
I know Dorothy would like any donations to be given to the First Church of Christ Scientist, 1190 Long Lake Road, New Brighton, MN 55112-6427, which she was still a member.
