Dorothy passed away March 16, 2018 at the age of 94 in her home at Parkway Place in Houston, Texas. She was born September 26,1923 in Thomas, Oklahoma. Dot and John W. Cooke were High School sweethearts and married at the age of 18, one month after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage prior to John’s death in 2005.
Dot graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts degree and had a career in Teaching Spanish. She enjoyed playing tennis, photography, religious studies, and worldwide travel.
Dot accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at the age of 6 and has always been active in the church.
She was a member of Memorial Drive Baptist Church in Houston for nearly six decades.
Dot is survived by her two daughters ( Cindi Hinton and Christia Hudnell), two grandchildren ( Juli Hinton and John Maldonado), two great grandchildren ( Caleb and Chloe Hinton), and a cherished companion (Everett Turner).
Internment at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079 on Tuesday, March 20, 2018.
