

She was born on the 2nd of January 1932, in Houston, and moved to Ft. Worth, TX at age 3 where she lived until her college years when her parents returned to Houston. During WWII she attended schools not only in Ft. Worth, but in Mineral Wells, TX, Columbus, GA and Olympia, WA. Dorothy graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Ft. Worth in 1948. She attended TSCW (now Texas Women’s University), and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She has been a resident of Houston since 1953. Although her major was Interior Design, she began working in the Exploration Department of Humble Oil (Exxon Mobil) as a Draftsman. She later became a Landman until she retired in 1986 after 33 years with Exxon.
In her youth Dorothy received numerous academic and beauty honors (Court of Cotton in 1951). She was one of the first Presidents of Houston’s Zeta Tau Alpha night group, a member of Girls Cotillion, Past President of the Briarcroft Garden Club, a member of Brown Thumb Garden Club, The Harris County Heritage Society, HAPL, AAPL and St Andrews Presbyterian Church.
Dorothy was proud to be a fifth generation Texan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothea Sander Falkenberg and Col. Roy Turner Falkenberg. She was also preceded in death by George Sealy, her dearest companion of 27 years. She is survived by numerus cousins including Wayne, Polly and Mark Falkenberg of Huntsville, AL, Lori Falkenberg Bloess of Tybee Island, GA, Dennis Sander and David Lasater of Houston, Marilyn Lambert of Great Falls, VA, Cindy Carter of Houston, Carolyn Hurley of Quitman TX, and Henry, Ronald and Judy Hawkins of Houston. Goddaughters are Marcia L. Saban of Scottsdale, AZ and Sydnie Sliker of Seattle, WA. The Falkenberg and Sander families wish to express their deepest gratitude to the Sealy family, whom she loved as her own, for the cherished time and generous friendships shared over the years.
Dorothy will be remembered for her love of travel. She had visited all 50 states, over 65 countries, and felt fortunate to have seen most of those places prior to the large influx of tourists. As an only child she treasured her friendships and stayed in touch with many long-term friends. She was interested in politics and remained a lifelong Republican.
A funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 6th of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where Reverend Jim Gill, Pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church is to officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
Immediately following the reception, the family will gather for a private entombment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
