

Dorothy J. Lenton, the fourth child of Maggie Lloyd Murray and Willie Alton Murray Sr. was born May 21, 1943 in Grapeland, Texas. At an early age she united with Bethel Baptist Church and was active in Sunday School, B.T.U. and the church choir.In 1961, Dorothy graduated from Ralph J. Bunche High School in Crockett, Texas where she played basketball and sang in the choir. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Houston and enrolled at Texas Southern University to further her education. She gained employment with the United States Postal Service where she remained employed until her retirement. She united with Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Brentwood Baptist Church in 1981 where she remained until her death.On May 9, 1981 she was united in holy matrimony to Herbert G. Lenton. This union produced no children; sadly she miscarried a daughter, Sharina and was unable have any other children.Dorothy, affectionately called “Dot”, moved to her heavenly home on December 24, 2020. There she joins her parents, Willie and Maggie; brothers, Albert, Herbert and Linzell; sister-in-law, Ola; and stepson, Lionell. She leaves to cherish her memory, husband, Herbert; sister, Ethel; brothers Odell (Joyce), Willie Jr.(Linda) all of Houston and Elmer (Shirley) of Crockett; ten stepsons and daughters Randall, Verelyn, Beverly, Annette, Laquita, Herbert Jr., Clarence, Billy, James and Willis; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
