

A visitation for Dorothy will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A funeral service will occur Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 3606 Beauchamp St, Houston, TX 77009. A committal service will occur Friday, April 21, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
Born in New Ulm, Texas on July 2, 1940. She is survived by her son Jeff Mahlmann and wife Lisa Mahlmann; son Ron Mahlmann; and daughter Gina Riley. She was the proud grandmother of Curtis Mahlmann, David Mahlmann, Carson Riley and Daniel Riley, and the great grandmother of Dean Mahlmann. She is also survived by her brother Henry Hartfiel and many nieces, nephews and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Rueben Frank Mahlmann, parents Otto and Irene Hartfiel and infant daughter Rita Ann Mahlmann.
Dorothy was baptized on August 18, 1940, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Frelsburg, Texas; where on June 28, 1959, she married Rueben Frank Mahlmann. Dorothy became a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Houston, Texas in 1960 and remained a member until her death.
Dorothy attended school in Austin County, Texas where she graduated from Bellville Highschool in 1958. She would continue her education by completing several accounting classes at Houston Community College.
She moved to Houston as a young woman working at the American General Insurance company as a secretary in 1959. Starting in 1973 after raising her children, she worked as a secretary and office administrator for several years at PRI Inc, a legal practice. In 1978, she pursued an opportunity to serve her church. Dorothy retired in 2022 from her position as Financial Director at Zion Lutheran Church, having served 44 years in that role which she truly enjoyed.
Dorothy was very active in her children’s social development by holding multiple positions on the Garden Oaks PTA board and participating in Boy Scouts as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was very active in Zion’s church groups participating in bible study groups, women’s groups, book clubs, Alter team, Usher team and member fellowship ministries.
Her favorite pastimes were reading, sewing and quilting, watching her kids play sports, making homemade cookies for the grandkids, gardening in her yard and visiting with family, friends and neighbors. She enjoyed traveling on her many vacations within North America and Europe.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church to support the music ministry.
