Dorothy Doris Ruben

Mrs. Dorothy Doris (Hightower) Ruben was born January 18, 1927 in Huntsville, Texas to Dock and Susie Hightower. She was one of 9 children.

Dorothy accepted Christ early in her life has her parents and siblings all attended church regularly at Allen Chapel AME Church. Dorothy moved to Houston around 1942 where she attended Jack Yates High School and went on to receive her Cosmetology License from Franklin Beauty School. During this time she met a barber named Homer Rueben who would end up being her husband for many years to come. Homer and Doris moved to Palestine, Texas where they worked together in a barber/beauty shop.

After Homer’s passing Dorothy moved back to Houston to care for her sister Edna Mae Williams and Billy Hightower until their passing. Dorothy also worked many years at Holiday Inn with her sister Edna Mae Williams. Dorothy will be survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and people who met her along the way that loved her personality and spunkiness.

A visitation for Dorothy will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. The funeral will immediately follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The committal will follow services from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 W Montgomery Rd, Houston, TX 77088.
