Dorothy Marie Sanders

Dorothy was born on June 3, 1932, in Ganado, Texas, to Virgil Walleck and Lillian Laxson. She was raised in Bay City, Texas, alongside her two sisters, Faye and Koleta, and her brothers, Valline, Leroy, Joe, and Gary. She graduated from Bay City High School, where she proudly lettered in basketball, demonstrating the determination and team spirit that would characterize her throughout her life.

On August 29, 1952, Dorothy married the love of her life, David Albert Sanders. Together they made their home in Houston, Texas, where they built a loving family and shared many wonderful years together. After dedicating herself to raising their three children, Dorothy began a career as a dermatologist’s assistant and accountant. She was also a devoted member of the Baptist church, where her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life.

Dorothy found joy in life’s simple pleasures and treasured the time she spent with family and friends. She had a remarkable talent for artistry and painting and enjoyed expressing her creativity through her artwork. She also loved dancing and was a proud member of the Hey Lollies square dancing group for more than thirty years. Dorothy and David shared a love of adventure, enjoying sailing, tending their garden, watching beautiful sunsets, and traveling internationally with family and friends, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

She is survived by her son, Glenn David Sanders and his wife, Crystal Lynn Sanders; her brothers, Valline Walleck, Leroy Walleck, Joe Walleck, and Gary Walleck; her grandchildren, Dezerie Rae Skinner and her husband, Roy Skinner, Natasha Kay St. Cyr, Glenn David Sanders Jr., and James Charles Christiansen and his wife, Gloria; her eleven great-grandchildren, Hope Jimenez, Marshall Skinner and his wife, Carlen, Hunter Skinner, Fisher Skinner, Kaitlyn Young and her husband, Carlton Young, Kylee Sanders, Koletin Sanders, Wyatt Sanders, Lincoln Thompson, Tyler Christiansen, and Miles Christiansen; and her five great-great-grandchildren, Brylie Jimenez, Arya Young, Olivia Young, Sebastian Young, and Beckham Skinner.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Albert Sanders; her daughters, Suzanne Denise Christiansen and Karen Kay Beach; her sisters, Faye Westfall and Koleta Shepherd; and her parents, Virgil Walleck and Lillian Laxson.

Dorothy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her artistic spirit, her adventurous heart, and the deep love she shared with her family. Her kindness, strength, and grace touched the lives of everyone who knew her, and her memory will continue to be cherished for generations to come.
