Dorothy Mae Bostick Stroman was born on September 4, 1933 in Flora, Mississippi and entered eternal life on June 27, 2014. She was the youngest of eight children born to Everette Clark Bostick and Lena Mae Dees Bostick. Her brothers and sisters called her Dot and she grew up on the farm her father managed. After graduation from Flora High School, she moved to Biloxi to work as a telephone operator and met Larry Joe Stroman. Larry and Dorothy were married at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi and lived in Biloxi until he was discharged from the service and they moved to Texas for him to attend the University of Houston. Mom and Dad worked hard to create a very good life for their family and they loved their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.
Mom enjoyed making a comfortable home for her family. It wasn’t unusual to come home from school to discover that she’d rearranged the furniture or painted a room or to find her standing on her head. She enjoyed bowling on several leagues and was quite a good bowler. She taught herself to be a great cook, loved to host holiday celebrations and Saturday night dinners and sing-alongs (which always included a certain Jimmy Buffet song) and loved having her family spend the weekend at their lake house. Mom and Dad enjoyed travel, taking trips to South America, Ireland, Caribbean cruises and river cruises in Europe.
She loved and was loved by her family. Her husband Larry, daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Randy Sones, sons and daughters-in-law John and Vicki Stroman, Mike and Bonnie Stroman, and Steve and Rachel Stroman survive her and will miss her dearly. Grandchildren and their spouses include Graham and Jill Sones, Chelsea and Matt Ballard, Amber and Michael Lynch, Lauren and Kevin Hirshberg, Ben Stroman, Rachel Stroman, Shelby Stroman, Sarah Estrada, Allie Stroman, Hannah Stroman and Django Stroman. Great-grandchildren include Jayden Bonvillian, Hunter Stroman, Sofia Sones, Veronica Estrada, Owen Ballard and Landon Gerth.
Her brother, Clark Bostick and sisters Bunt Peeples, Cathy Churchwell and Irene Garriga also survive her. She will be reunited with her parents and brother Winner Park Bostick and sisters Mavis Justice and Ellen Presley.
She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and her pastor and friend, Reverend George Aurich, will conduct services at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 1st from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 2nd at 10:00 a.m. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the wonderful and loving caregivers and staff at Silverado in Sugar Land where she and Larry have made their home for the past four years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
