

Dorothy LaVerne Woods Woodall was born to Dr. Roy R. and Viola Smith Woods in Martin’s Ferry, Ohio on the 5th of December 1911, and passed away on the 6th of February 2012, in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in engineering in 1933, and practiced optometry with her father in Martin’s Ferry until she married the late Ramon A. Woodall of Hamlin, West Virginia in 1935. She received a degree in education from the University of Kentucky while her husband earned his law degree. She taught science, physics and chemistry at Hamlin High School for 30 years, was well loved by students who voted her to be both “best” and “most beautiful” teacher many times. Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling both in America and abroad. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Delta Gamma Sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Texas Society of Colonial Dames, was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
She is survived by two sons: Dr. Ramon A. Woodall, III, and his wife, Alice Ann, of Sedona, Arizona; and Jay A. Woodall, and his wife, Sharon, of Cape Coral, Florida; and a daughter, Marilyn, and her husband, Dr. Dan B. Jones, of Houston, Texas. She was an inspiration to her eight grandchildren: Douglas W. Speiden and wife, Sherri, of Little Rock, Arkansas; Dr. Jeffrey S. Speiden and wife, Shelley; of Indianapolis; C. Marshall Speiden and wife, Jeannine, of Frisco, Texas; Sarah Beth Schmitt and husband, Paul, of Las Vegas, Nevada; Allison Wallace and husband, Dr. David Wallace of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Ashleigh Wallace, and her husband, Lyle, of Littleton, Colorado; Christina Ronaldson and husband, Ivan of Falls Church, Virginia, and J. Andrew Woodall of Fairfax, Virginia; and to her thirteen loving great-grandchildren..
The memorial service is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 11th of February, in the chapel of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Dr. Linda Christians, Executive Pastor, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the service.
