Dorrit "Precious" Hundeene Massias Facey, 86, of Houston, Texas, passed away on October 22, 2020, at HCA Hospital Cypress, Texas, with her family by her side. Dorrit resided in Houston, Texas with her son and daughter-in-law.
She was born to parents William Alexander Massias and Claire Antonette Massias, nee Scott, on December 2, 1933, in St. Catherine, Jamaica, on the family property called, Whitakers Mountain. She was raised in Spanish Town where she lived until she, along with her husband and children, migrated to the United States in 1970. Their son Jeff had also previously gone to the U.S. to pursue a degree in dentistry, circa 1968.
Dorrit attended “Teacher Jackson” private school. She then went on to graduate from The Cathedral High School for Girls (C.H.S, now called St. Jago High School), in late 1940. She went on to do secretarial studies at Durham College where she learned shorthand and typing. She was quite good at both.
Dorrit worked as a Stenographer/Secretary for 30+ years with the Bank of Nova Scotia on King street, Kingston Jamaica, and Wall Street, New York, N.Y. She and her husband, Kenneth Anthony Facey retired in 1987 and moved to Houston Texas, to reside near their son, Dr. Jeffrey Facey (deceased).
Dorrit loved her immediate and extended family very much. She was a Grandmother and a Great-grandmother. She was affectionately known as grandma to her grandkids and GiGi to her great grandkids. It gave her great joy to visit with them all. She was also devoted to those who called her their friend. Many of these friendships, from her childhood, continued until she died.
Dorrit loved Jesus Christ and the Cornerstone Methodist Church. She went to her church every Sunday until she had to depend on others to take her and eventually until she was unable to attend due to weakness in her legs. She enjoyed traveling with her girlfriends to Hawaii, Mexico, and various islands in the Caribbean, along with many states in the U.S. She also enjoyed spending many hours in her garden and conversing with her plants. She was very proud of her plants and flowers.
Dorrit knew Kenneth A. Facey (deceased) for many years prior to their marriage, having both been born in the very small town of Spanish Town, Jamaica. They were married on November 7, 1964, at St. Richard’s Roman Catholic Church in Kingston, Jamaica. They remained married until his death on February 24, 1988. Together they raised 5 children: Jeffrey, Don, Andrene, Richard, Carol.
Dorrit is survived by her Son and Daughter-in-law, Richard and Jenianne Haisley; Daughter and son-in-law Carol and John Crafa; Step-Daughter Andrene Facey Williams; grandchildren, Ian Haisley and his wife Jessica , Alec Haisley, Natalie Haisley, Brandon Crafa, Tyler Crafa; step-grandchildren, Dwayne Facey, Dwight Facey, Damian Facey, Christopher Facey, Kyle Heron, Neil Heron, Kelsey Heron; great-grandchildren, Aiden Haisley, Liam Haisley, Spencer, and soon to be great-granddaughter, Elsie James Haisley; step great-grandsons Ayden Lee and Rory Heron; sister Geraldine "Gem" Hussey and brother, John Massias. Precious also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by Husband, Kenneth Facey; Father and Mother, William and Claire Scott Massias; Brothers, Joseph Massias, and Aubrey Massias; stepsons, Jeffrey and Donovan Facey.
Webcasting is scheduled for November 6th, 2020 at 11:00 am. A private viewing will begin at 10 am and private service at 11 am at 9149 Hwy 6 North, Houston, Texas 77095. The burial will begin at 1:30 pm at Forest Park Westheimer, located at 12800 Westheimer Rd Houston, TX 77077. Pastor Ben Lohmer of Cornerstone United Methodist Church will officiate the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name (Dorrit Massias Facey) to the American Heart Association and St. Jude Children Cancer Center.
