Douglas Leroy Corbett

Douglas Leroy Corbett was born on September 16, 1949, in North Haven, Connecticut, to Gordon and Winifred Corbett. He grew up in Glens Falls, New York, and Lexington, Kentucky, where Gordon was a Presbyterian pastor and synod executive, and Winifred was a schoolteacher. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, where he made many lifelong friends and claimed to live entirely on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

His career took him to Washington, D.C., where he worked for the Federal Power Commission, then to Houston, Texas, where he made his permanent home. There, he pursued a legal career in natural gas pipelines for Tenneco and others, and then in power plant development in an independent practice.

Douglas served his community faithfully as an elder at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, a youth baseball coach, a fourth grade Sunday School teacher, an alumni interviewer for his alma mater, and a city councilman of Southside Place. He brought joy to all he encountered through his friendliness, trustworthiness, generosity, reliability, and willingness to share his repertoire of hilarious dad jokes with any and all within earshot, friend and stranger alike.

Douglas passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, after sudden worsening of previous ailments. His loved ones accompanied him during last days and hours. He went to be with God with the secure knowledge his family and friends loved him dearly and will cherish his memory.

Douglas is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Curran. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Corbett, his sisters, Christine Corbett, Patricia Corbett, and Carol Green, and his children, Claire Corbett and Matthew Corbett.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at South Main Baptist Church, located at 4100 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77002, with Pastor Matthew Melton officiating. For family only, burial will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
