Scott was born in Taipei, Taiwan to Yeou Jia Lin and Su Yueh Lin on August 31, 1976. In that bustling city, Scott enjoyed roaming the noisy streets, taking in the local culinary delights, and absorbing the unique culture that became the pillars that guided him the rest of his life. At the age of 13, Scott moved to Houston, Texas with his mother and younger brother.
Moving to a new country at the beginning of high school is a daunting task for any teenager, but Scott took the challenge in stride. With the support of his family and cousins, he quickly worked his way through high school and followed his cousins to The University of Texas at Austin. Scott loved Austin. He enjoyed spending time with his cousins and friends at the business building and PCL library. After receiving his degree in Management Information Systems at the McCombs School of Business, Scott took a consulting job with Andersen Consulting, and moved to Dallas, Texas. However, he quickly realized that he wanted greater challenges. So, he decided to pursue a medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, where he met his mentor, Dr. Ted Huang, and began his anesthesiology and pain management training.
After residency and fellowship, Scott moved back to Houston to private practice. In July 2015 he established his own practice in Katy. He was passionate about his practice. Scott cared about his patients deeply. He insisted on seeing every patient by himself and strived to provide the best care. His patients often described him as empathetic, caring, funny and smart.
Scott met his wife, May, through mutual friends in November 2002. He seemed intimidating at first, but he had the biggest heart and was the most thoughtful person May had ever met. He taught May to be a stronger and bigger person. He also encouraged her to pursue her passion in accounting. On September 9, 2009, they decided to tie the knot at the courthouse in Galveston, Texas. They later had their wedding reception in Taipei, Taiwan to celebrate with family and friends.
On August 11, 2011, Scott and May welcomed their daughter, Sophia, to their family. She is a joy and blessing. Scott loved sitting next to her, answering all of her questions, and giving her advices on life. Their favorite activity was having ice cream at Baskin Robbins after school. They also enjoyed bike rides in the park and building LEGOs together.
On January 15, 2015, Scott and May’s son, Mark, was born. He is a mini-Scott. He adores Scott. He loved going to Dunkin Donuts to pick up coffee and donut holes with Scott. He enjoyed cuddling next to Scott and watching movies with him. He also loved taking road trips with Scott.
In September 2017, just as Scott was beginning to blossom in his professional and personal life, he was diagnosed with an illness that would eventually take him from us before he or the world was ready. Through the next year and a half, Scott bravely battled that illness and continued to work hard to support his family. On February 12, 2019, Scott quietly continued his journey in the embrace of Buddha with his father Yeou Jia, mother Su, brother, Ted, and wife May by his side.
Scott is survived by his wife, May Lin, his daughter, Sophia Lin, his son, Mark Lin, his parents, Yeou Jia Lin and Su Yueh Lin and brother, Ted Lin.
The Lin family wishes to thank the wonderful professionals at M.D. Anderson who devotedly cared for Scott. They also wish to thank their family, many kind friends, neighbors, and coworkers who have supported them.
