Duckgi Moon Seo, known lovingly as Gigi, passed away on March 31, 2026, at the age of 78 in Houston, Texas. Born on June 17, 1947, in Seoul, South Korea, she lived a life marked by extraordinary achievement, boundless generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the people she served and loved.
Dr. Seo graduated as valedictorian from Korea University College of Medicine in 1972 before journeying to the United States to pursue her Board Certification in Pathology. It was during this chapter of her life that she met Timothy Kaehoon Seo, and the two were wed in 1978. In 1987, she established her private practice in the Spring Branch community of Houston, where she served patients with skill, candor, and compassion for over 35 years before retiring in 2022. In 2019, she created the Duckgi Moon Seo scholarship fund at Korea University dedicated to supporting female medical students, ensuring that others would receive the same opportunity she had been given decades before.
Beautiful, fiercely intelligent, fearless, funny, and kind, Gigi was short in stature but powerful in personality. Beyond her passion for practicing medicine, she cherished photography, fashion, classical music, and, perhaps unexpectedly, classic western movies. She believed in keeping one's mind and body sharp through exercise and study, and always pushed those around her to reach their full potential. Her warm smile and humor made everyone in her care of presence feel loved.
Gigi was an active member of the Houston Korean community, Asia Society Texas, and the community of Hempstead, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Timothy Seo. She is survived by her sister Moon Duck Nan; son, Jason Seo; daughter, Heather Seo; and stepson, Clark Seo.
May she rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord she faithfully served.
