

Duncan Brooks Shanklin, passed away on February 9, 2014. Born in Des Moines, Iowa on October 13, 1922 and was raised in Atlantic, Iowa. In high school he was All State in both football and basketball and he played basketball in college at Simpson College before enlisting to serve in the Army Air Force during World War II. Graduated from Drake University and moved to Houston in 1952 where he worked before retiring in 1992. Member of the Elks Lodge #151 Auxiliary where he was Grand Exalted Ruler. His father was Charles Tazewell who was an author playwright who wrote the book "Littlest Angel". His great grandfather shoed horses for Jesse James and his great uncle was Ulysses S Grant. He was married to Barbara for 58 years before her death in 2002. He is survived by his two children, Patricia Lee Vaughan and husband Skip, Duncan Brooks Shanklin II and his wife Alison, and his 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was an avid golfer and a fantastic dancer. He was always happy, always smiling, always encouraging, and was loved by everyone that met him and he was known for his firm handshake. A Memorial Service will be at 10:00am, Friday, February 14, 2014 in the Chapel at Second Baptist Church Houston, 6400 Woodway 77057.
