Edelmiro G. Garcia, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather went to God on September 25, 2026, as his immediate family prayed the Divine Mercy Prayer and the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary. His love of and faith in God never wavered.
Miro was born on September 22, 1935, in General Teran, N.L. Mexico to the late Lugardo Garcia Garza and Elisa Garza Rodriguez. He immigrated to Houston in 1955 and became a naturalized citizen in 1979. He was proud to be an American citizen and always said, “I love this country.”
Upon arriving he began work in the hospitality industry starting at the Shamrock Hilton, moving on to the Astrodome Club, Hyatt Regency Spindletop, until retiring from the Petroleum Club in 2005. In between shifts, he devoted himself to being there for his grandchildren. “Ito” was unconditional in his love for his family.
Miro is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Alice Vega Garcia with whom he shared a deep love of God and Catholic faith; daughter Elda Garcia-Ditta (Louis M. Ditta); son Gerald E. Garcia (Norma Urteaga); and grandchildren: Alexa Garcia-Ditta (Matt Dawson), Angelica Garcia-Ditta (Brian Pinero), Cameron Garcia (Adriana Castro), and Dominic Garcia.
Miro was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lugardo Garcia and sister Blanca Oviedo.
The Holy Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia Catholic Church 11720 Joan of Arc Dr. on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 10:30am. There will be a private burial at a later date.
