

Ed was born January 26, 1929 in Houston to parents Edward and Pauline Kurtz. He is survived by his children Edward William (Ted) Kurtz IV, Margaret Anne Kurtz Davis and son in law Robert Davis. He also leaves his sister, Mary Anne Murrin and sister in law Rosalie Little. Brothers in law include William Murrin, Charles Little and Joseph Little. His adoring grandchildren are Blake Edward Kurtz, Mary Margaret ( Mimi) Honeycutt and Meredith Anne Davis.
Ed graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1947 and attended St. Mary’s University. He entered the United States Air Force serving four years at Keesler Air Force Base and later returned to head the family businesses as President of Kurtz Inc. and The Edwards Co. Ed’s entire career was spent pioneering the wholesale jewelry business in the South, building futures in the watch-making trade and establishing many independent jewelers. The company began in the 1940’s and supplied jewelry to the Federated department stores, as well as tools, machinery and precision instruments to NASA and dental practices. The corporation merged with Marshall Swartchild Co. in the late seventies. He was a member of The Jewelers Board of Trade and many professional organizations and a life long parishioner of St. Anne’s Catholic Church.

A graveside ceremony, celebrating Edward Kurtz’s life, will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery with Father Jay Walsh officiating.
