Elizabeth Christine “Liz” Capel, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend, passed away on March 5th, 2026, at the age of 64 in Katy, Texas.
Liz is survived by her devoted husband, Michael L. Capel; her three sons and their wives, Ryan Capel and Danielle Capel, Conner Capel and Ashton Capel, Tyler Capel and Bailey Vandomelen; and Liz’s sister Barbara Graeter and Barbara’s wife Amy Oliphint. As lifelong dog lovers, Liz and Mike also shared their home and hearts with their beloved dogs, Roxy and Wrigley. She is also remembered by many extended family members and countless friends whose lives were touched by her kindness.
Liz was born on January 30, 1962, in Houston, Texas, to Helmut and Hildegard Graeter. She grew up surrounded by family and strong friendships that would last a lifetime. She attended Sam Houston State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.
On November 24, 1984, Liz met the love of her life, Mike Capel, at the wedding of their dear friends Roger and Debbie Clemens. What began as a chance meeting quickly became a lifelong love story. They were married on November 4, 1989, and built a beautiful life together centered around love, laughter, and family.
Liz was a vibrant, joyful soul whose presence made every gathering brighter. She was fun, loving, sweet, and endlessly giving. Her smile was constant, her energy contagious, and her positivity unwavering. Friends and family often said that wherever Liz was, laughter soon followed. She had a natural gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved.
She was the proud and devoted mother of three sons and took great joy in supporting her family through every stage of life. From attending Mike’s baseball games to cheering from the sidelines at her boys’ sporting events, Liz was always there celebrating every moment and milestone. Her presence in the stands was always easy to spot, smiling, energetic, and full of encouragement. Her pride in her family was unmistakable and her love for them ran deep.
Liz loved being around people and never missed an opportunity to gather with friends and family. She enjoyed traveling, spending time outdoors, and sharing laughter with the people she loved most. She especially loved being outside, whether at the deer lease, floating the river, spending time by the water or out on a boat. She also loved country dancing with Mike. These simple moments with the people she loved most brought her great happiness. Liz found joy in life’s simple moments.
More than anything, Liz’s life was defined by the love she shared so freely. She had a generous heart, a joyful spirit, and an ability to brighten even the simplest of days. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her laughter, love, and vibrant spirit will live on through the countless memories she created with those she loved.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
Matthew 25:23
