To my extended family Deirdre, Sonja, Tydell and Gina, as you laid your sister Elizabeth to rest on yesterday, my thoughts were with you and I continue to pray God will comfort and heal your broken hearts.   My memory of Elizabeth was her kind spirit, big smile and infectious laugh.   
May God be with you throughout this holiday season as  I know she will truly be missed.  

Elizabeth, I will always have fond Sunday  School memories  shared between you, me, and Gloria. You worked to the very  end at what you loved doing and that was Sunday School  work.  May Heaven be all you thought it would be and even more🙏❤. Rest now in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
My thoughts and prayers go out to  Liz family and friends. Know that her love and legacy will always be you.🙏❤

I was very fortunate to work with Liz on the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival production committee.  She was a passionate and caring recreation therapist who showed great support for veterans.   To echo others, she made me laugh and smile a lot during our time together!

I will remember Liz as one of Tydell’s little sisters. I am grateful for the Nealy hospitality shown to me visiting Mobile, Alabama and for inclusion in ceremonies and milestones. May God bless keep and strengthen Sonja, Tydell, Gina and Deidre to navigate in the knowledge of Romans 8:28 at such a time as this. May precious memories provide comfort. There really aren't words that fully described how meaningful a person Elizabeth was to me. Her smile was electric, her spirit was inspiring and her personality was priceless. To know Her was to know that Angels truly existed on earth. She will truly be missed. REST WELL AUNT LIZ.

Growing up as a little girl ; Elizabeth always looked out for me when I went  any where with them . I felt protected. She asked me to draw  something for her when she was in College at UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA. I was glad to do it.

I had the privilege of working with Liz through the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival. She cared deeply for the Veterans she worked with. I will treasure my great memories of our times together and all of the travel adventures we had. Liz will be missed by so many. And no one will ever lead the Service flag procession like her! Will miss her sense of humor and  her friendship.

Lizzy Faye, as I affectionally called her, was my Supervisor at the Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center.  Throughout the 4 years that we worked together we shared many laughs and  great memories.  I learned many things from Liz. So much so that my co-workers at times refer to me as Lil' Liz. Liz's dedication and  love for others will always be remember. She will be greatly missed.

I met Liz 20 years ago when I started working at the VA and she quickly became a good friend. We spent a lot of time together over the years, planning events for patients, judging for the Creative Arts Festival and BBQs, trips to Olive Garden, texts and phone calls to catch up, and so much more. This photo....this is how I will remember her. She had such an amazing smile and laugh. I will miss you, my friend. 

I met Liz over 25 years ago while working on the SCI Unit at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. I truly enjoyed working with her as well and the many patients she touched with her great service.  I remembered sitting down on our many lunch breaks together and how she taught me to play dominos (of course she won every single time).  She will be missed!

I'm deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our friend, Liz Nealy.  She was extremely dedicated to Veterans and the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival (NVCAF). 

Her first Festival experience was in 1993 when St. Cloud, MN hosted.  She accompanied an artist named Brenda and was so affected by the Festival experience that she wrote a poem and read it aloud during the Closing Dinner.  Liz went on to attend several more Festivals where she often wrote a poem dedicated to that year's event.  She captured the spirit and gave us the gift of her prose.

I was so grateful when Liz stepped up to offer to host the NVCAF in Houston, TX and even more appreciative when she agreed to host it a year earlier than planned.  As host site coordinator of the 1998 NVCAF, Liz showed us a strength of commitment and caring that was so moving.  

Liz served as National Drama Chairperson for several years and ultimately was the National Creative Writing Chair when the Creative Writing division was first presented as a fifth division of competition in 2005.  She received the Shirley Jefferies Award for her dedication and commitment to the NVCAF.

Liz had a wonderful sense of humor.  To know Liz was to laugh with her and we will always treasure those very fond memories.  She was dedicated to Veterans as a Recreation Therapist and as a major leader in the NVCA competition and Festival.  She will be greatly missed but always remembered in all good ways. 🌟

As I sit and think of the many good days on SCI,MEDVAMC,Liz was my favorite person to unwind with, that statement ""boy you dun lost you everlovin mind" along with a infectious laugh was Liz, love walking in a room where she was involved with a patient in a robust game of dominos and tell the patient "" Liz cheats", , you still cheats, you sneaked out on us.love you lady girl.

A beautiful person , both inside and out, who did not meet strangers. She always showed genuine appreciation  to all  who helped in any way‼️🙏‼️

I was blessed to call Liz a friend . We worked together on the Spinal Cord Injury unit at the VA for more than 25 years. I would make sure to tell her of the silly and sometimes stupid things I had done just to hear her say “ Have you lost your ever lovin mind?” then follow that with her infectious laugh. We were walking partners too for many of those years in the mornings before our shift started, She even continued to come walk with me after she retired (as both of us needed a little nudge) until Covid restrictions wouldn’t allow. On those walks I learned she really loved her family, even the little dog she claimed she didn’t, and Loved The Lord! We will walk again together some day my friend. Janine 

Liz's presence brought joy to the room. She made us laugh and smile. She was a wonderful listener and a dear friend to us all.  She had a great impact on the growth of the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival over the years. The Veterans and staff involved with the Festival will miss her dearly.  

Until we meet again, my friend.  

What a friend we have in Jesus.. God also allows us to have earthly friends to brighten our lives.  Liz was a friend. Her love and compassion for family and friends was always on display even when her physical health failed. She was a master of the "dramatic stare" letting us know her approval or disapproval of what transpired.  Resting now in the arms of Jesus, as she lives on in our heart. We are comforted by the God of all comfort.

Ms. Liz was my internship supervisor at the VA in Fall 2013. She was absolutely incredible! She started every day with a smile, words of advice, and jokes! I learned a lot from her and continue to use the skills she fostered within me to this day. My heart and prayers go out to her family and friends during this time. She was such a bright light and I am blessed to have known her.

I met Liz in 2002 working as her student intern on the Spinal Cord Injury unit and later transferred back from the Central Texas VA Healthcare System in 2013 to continue  work with her.

To the family, friends, and cohorts, my heart and condolences go out to each of you during this time. Liz was like a big sister to me. Thomas, myself, Kelyse and Dorian will always remember her and are thankful for her willingness to making memories with us that will remain in our hearts forever.  



I met Liz in 1992 when I came to work at the VA.  Liz immediately took me under her wing and treated me like a younger brother.  Liz truly cared for people and once she accepted you as a friend, you would have a friend for life.  Rest well Liz, I will see you on the other side.

A note to say I am sadden by the passing of Sis Elizabeth Nealy. A faithful sister in Christ and friend. Family, I would like to offer my condolences and tell you that you are in my prayers. Remember, God is able and there is no earthly sorrow God can not heal.

I was blessed to call Liz my friend.  Over 25 plus years of friendship. Faith Family Friends is what she stood for. I will always carry you in my heart.

Liz and I have been friends for almost 30 years, serving together on the National Committee for the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival.  We also became travel buddies and made so many wonderful trips together.  I'm so grateful to have those memories now. I consider her one of my dearest, best friends. I will miss the love we shared as friends, our long, deep conversations, her compassion, sincere advice, quick wit, sense of humor...I could go on and on. I know she's ecstatic seeing her family now. Especially Madear.

I had the honor of working with Liz in both a professional and volunteer role at the VA for over 25 years.  The friendship that we developed was very special to me including our short jaunts to Metairie to visit family and eat at Deanie’s. Her love for the Veterans at the hospital was apparent (plus she played a mean game of dominoes, pinochle and cribbage). I loved that she let me help out as a judge for the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival once I left Recreation Therapy. so I could still feel connected.  We could go for many months without talking, but once the phone rang or we saw each other it was like no time at all had passed - you only meet a few folks in your life that you share that type of bond with.  I know that she’s lighting up heaven with her smile right now…
