Ellen H. Christensen

She was born November 21, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Corbet and Sarah McClure Dixon. She married John A. Christensen on June 21, 1952 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1999.

She is survived by two sons, David E. (and Denise) Christensen of Houston and Darryl P. Christensen of Peoria, Ill., two daughters, Donna (and Bruce) Pate of Houston and Bonnie (and Michael) Roberts of Houston, and five grandchildren, Sarah, Kristie, Katie, Ryan, and Lauren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister.

Ellen served others faithfully as a registered nurse for over 40 years. She graduated from Mayfield High School in Ohio. She went on to graduate from the University of Chicago School of Nursing, where she trained at Cook County Hospital. Ellen was a long-time member of Bethany Baptist Church in Altona, Ill.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in Bethany Baptist Church of Altona. Rev. Bob Nutzhorn will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2010 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church. A memorial service for Ellen will be held in Houston, Texas, at a later date.
