

Ms. Limitone was born Elizabeth Ellen McCarthy in 1948 in Houston, to parents Rager and Jane McCarthy. She graduated in the top 5% from Austin High School and relocated to New Orleans to pursue her RN credentials at Touro Infirmary School of Nursing. After completing her RN at the top of her class in 1969, Ellen worked for a year in New Orleans before returning to Houston. She received both her Bachelors of Nursing and Masters of Nursing from Texas Women’s University.
Ellen began her career in 1973 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center. She worked tirelessly for her patients, published articles related to nursing and cancer, and spoke at conferences about cancer care. She retired from MD Anderson after 32 years of service and was well respected by her colleagues.
Ellen was introduced to her husband, Anthony “Tony” Limitone while working at MD Anderson. They married in 1988. Ellen and Tony shared a love of animals and took in many strays over the years. Ellen was a fierce advocate for animal welfare and donated to many causes.
Ellen is survived by her husband, Tony, her sisters, Mary Jayne and Nancy, seven nieces and nephews, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
A visitation for Ellen will be held Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A rosary service will follow starting at 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
A funeral service will occur Monday, January 3, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer, followed by a Committal Service at 3:00 PM in the cemetery.
