Elmer proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1959. Following his military service, he began a long and successful career in the oilfield logistics industry, starting as a truck driver before transitioning into logistics sales, where he remained until his retirement. Throughout his career, Elmer was well known and highly respected by his peers.
Elmer was blessed to experience two great loves in his lifetime. He was married to Margaret for forty-two wonderful years until her passing, and together they raised two children, Elmer Jr. and Cindy. Later, he opened his heart again and married June, with whom he shared twenty happy years together, fifteen of those married.
Elmer was a devoted man of faith and a member of Atascocita Methodist Church. He was a loving father, a loyal friend, and a genuinely kind man who was always quick to help anyone in need. He enjoyed hunting, traveling—even if just for day trips—visiting casinos, spending time with his family, and most of all, being a proud Papa.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife, June; brothers Billy Hammonds and Gordon Davenport; sister Joyce Blackburn; son Elmer Hammonds, Jr.; daughter Cindy Yount and her husband Brian; honorary son Robert Mendoza and his wife Sheri; grandchildren Ashley Vasquez and husband Nick, Robert Mendoza, Amanda Mclean and husband Nick, Bobbie Ann Mendoza, and Zachary Mendoza; great-grandchildren Ethan, Alexa, Robert, Delilah, Adrian, Ava, Rose, Amelia, and Aiden; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
