
He was abundantly blessed to be raised in a home where love, family and friends were celebrated. His formative childhood school years were spent in Center and he graduated from C.H. Daniels High School in 1964.
Sonny answered the call to serve his country by serving in the U.S. Army from January 1965 to January 1967 when he was discharged with honors. He married the love of his life, Sharon Price, on April 12, 1965. Sonny’s church home is St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Houston, Tx.
Seeking more economic and social opportunities, Sonny and the family moved to Houston in 1969. He was gainfully employed with the City of Houston Water Department for several years. His entrepreneurial spirit led to the establishment of Eltroy’s Trucking and membership in the International Longshoremen Association (ILA). He was later employed as a shipping clerk at the Port of Houston Authority until his retirement in 2009. After retirement, Sonny enjoyed family time, fishing and playing dominoes with his buddies.
Sonny transitioned peacefully on August 26, 2021with his family close by. He was preceded in death by his parents Mentroy and LaDalia Ayers, adorable daughter Anquenette, siblings Sue Osby, Lee Gatha Hill, Gladys Johnson, Irene Ayers, Cleona Simmons and Robert Ayers.
He leaves to treasure precious memories his wife of 56 years Sharon, sons Stacy Ayers (Lola) Houston, Texas and Byron Daniels (Essie) of Tyler, Texas, grandson Byron Daniels, Jr., Nacogdoches, Texas, four granddaughters Jasmine Ayers and Alexandria Brown Houston, Texas, LaDrena Brooks and Lonnita Daniels, Nacogdoches Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
