

Elvira Joan Walker Burns, 85 of Conroe, Texas went to her heavenly resting place on December 21, 2015. She is preceded in death by George Elson Burns, her loving husband of 45 years, infant son, Keith Lane Burns, and son Mark Alan Burns, parents and Brother Byron James Walker. Elvira is survived by daughters; Patricia Taylor and husband Richard of Wasilla, Alaska, Susan Dornak and Dennis of Mexia, Texas and Robin Turnbull of Conroe, Texas. Mrs. Burns has nine grandchildren; Amy Musgrave and husband Stephen, Joanna Brennan and husband Mike, Jeffery Dornak and wife Karry, LeAaron Santore and husband Randy, Wendy Roberts and husband Justin, Caitlin Gonzalez and husband Tim, Colin Taylor, Brice Dornak, Blake Dornak. Mrs. Burns also has 11 great-grandchildren.
Elvira Burns was born July 14, 1930to Florence and Michael James Walker in Galveston, Texas. She attended St. Christopher’s Catholic Church and school in Houston, Texas and later attended St. Agnes Academy where she graduated in 1948. She married the love of her life, George Elson Burns of Gulfport, Miss. on June 27, 1949. Mrs. Burns was a very devout Catholic and shared her beautiful voice in the choirs at St. Phillip Neri in Houston, St. Edward in Spring and Sacred Heart in Conroe. Her family embraced a similar love of music and cherishes memories with her while singing on road trips, around the campfire, and at all the family gatherings. Joan always looked forward to her monthly card parties with her lady friends of the “Lower Greylog Society” for over 40 years. She was employed by Foley’s Dept. Store and graced their fragrance department for 25 years. Mrs. Burns loved traveling with her husband George all over the world as well as internationally. Some of her favorite destinations were Hawaii, Alaska, and Italy. Funeral services are set for December 26, 2015 at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, 8150 Park Place Blvd., Houston, TX at 9:30am for the rosary and burial Mass to follow at 10:00am. Pallbearers for Mrs. Elvira Burns are Jeff Dornak, Brice Dornak, Blake Dornak, Mike Brennan, Stephen Musgrave, Justin Roberts and Randy Santore.
