Elvira “Mae” Miranda entered into the arms of heaven on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022, at the age of 95. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, reuniting with her husband of 60 years, U.M. Marion Miranda, and her oldest son, Marion Robert Miranda. She was also preceded in death by her sister Juanita Garcia Pallarez, brother John Garcia, brother Lupe Garcia, sister Luisa Garcia Tovar, sister Dolores Garcia Vionis, brother Pete Garcia, and just four months ago by her son-in-law Dr. David N. Guel.
Mae is survived by her daughter Cecilia Miranda Guel of Houston, sons Larry Miranda and wife Lynn of Albuquerque, Paul Miranda and wife Patti of The Woodlands, and Mark Miranda and wife Danielle of Cypress, plus 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many others who called her “mom.”
Her family was truly her treasure!
Mae was born on February 1, 1927 in Farmersville, Louisiana to Jacinto Garcia and Elvira Hernandez Garcia of Mexico. One of seven children, she was the last surviving sibling of her family. Mae was raised in the East Texas sawmill towns of Fastrill and Alto. After losing her mother at the age of eight-years-old, she then went to live with her older sister and husband, Luisa and Joe Tovar.
Mae married the love of her life, Marion Miranda, on December 22, 1946, after his service in WWII. They moved to Houston shortly after and had five children. They enjoyed six decades of marriage before his passing in 2007.
Mae’s greatest accomplishment was serving as matriarch of her family. Her love for her family was only matched by her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith in Jesus flowed through her like a light in this world, and her favorite phrase was “Trust in the Lord.” God truly anointed her, which was clearly evident by everyone who met her. Her children were blessed to call her mom. She enjoyed her role as wife, mother, grandmother, supporter, encourager, prayer warrior, and the rock of our family. She selflessly provided for her family and extended family members who needed assistance or a place to call home for a period of time. She greeted everyone with a big hug, offered a home-cooked meal, and always parted ways with a “God bless you.”
The family will receive visitors Tuesday, November 1, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
