Emil was born in Sandy Point, Texas to Leroy and Frances Cleveland English on August 9, 1945. He was the second of six children. He graduated from Marshall High School and attended Texas Southern University.
Emil joined the Navy-USN. He achieved the rank of Specialist E-5. October 25, 1965 - January 26, 1970. He participated in two tours of the Vietnam conflict. He received one Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Fleet Marine Force Combat Insignia, National Defense Medal, EOH Hauling Fleet, ECC For E03 & 2, ECC for MRPO3 & 2.
Emil then joined the Army RA. He achieved the rank of SSG E6. March 8, 1971 - January 18, 1975. He received Vietnam Service Medal W/1 Silver Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Good Conduct Medal, Clasp, Bronze, 3 Loops.
Emil retired after 35 years of service with HL&P now known as CenterPoint Energy. He received multiple awards during his time of service.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Hazel Lee English; son Emil English Jr. of Houston, Texas; daughter Uvonka (Robert) Clausell of Houston, Texas, Special daughter Shelley-Marie English of Houston, Texas; brother John (Lenola) English of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Brian Darnell English, Rebecca Ann English, Caitlin Alana English, bonus grandchildren Christian Elijah Clausell, Xavier Emmanuel Clausell, Jerimiah Everett Garret; great-grandchildren Kaden-Jax Zeke English, Malik-Ky Emil English, bonus great grandchild Chinaza Latrice Nwankwo and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
