Emmett Lee Hunt, 91, born February 7, 1921 went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 27, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lucille Vandenberg Hunt, as well as his children, Terry Hunt and wife Cathy of Denton, Texas, Randy Hunt and wife Janet of Humble, Texas, and Ann Aguilar and husband Louis of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren are Amanda Aguilar, Sara Longoria, Jayme Hunt, Chelsea Overhuls and husband David, Casey Hunt and Jeffrey Hunt. Great grandchildren are Cali Aguilar and Orlando Longoria, Jr. He is also survived by many other relatives and loving friends.
Emmett was born in Center, Texas to Willie Washington Hunt and Lucy Cox Hunt. He was the youngest child and had two older brothers and one older sister. Each of his siblings predeceased him. Emmett went through many different types of experiences through his 91 years on earth and those experiences shaped him into the wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother that he grew up to be.
Though he was born during the roaring twenties, he soon lived through one of the most trying times in our Nation’s history – the Great Depression. This experience taught him how to be selfless and thankful for everything and everyone. He often shared stories of this time with his children to pass on the valuable lessons he learned.
Emmett went on to graduate from Center High School in 1938 and was then employed by the National Youth Administration at Inks Dam in Burnet, Texas. His life would change dramatically a second time when he joined the Army and accepted his duty to serve our great Nation in October of 1945. After about two years of faithful service to our Nation, he was honorably discharged in February of 1947.
Emmett’s walk with the Lord began at the young age of 15 when he accepted Jesus Christ to be his Lord and Saviour. Once he began this most important relationship in his life, he knew he was called to serve the Lord daily. He accepted the call to Ministry and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1955. Soon after that, in 1957, he was ordained as a Minister. During his 30+ years of faithful service to the Lord, he pastored churches in Irving, Tyler, Houston, and Rosenberg, Texas. Even after retirement, he faithfully taught the Keenagers Sunday School class at First Baptist Katy.
Some of the fondest memories most of his friends and family would agree sum up who he was are the following. He never met a stranger. He always brought the Lord into his conversations. He was generous to fault. He loved his bride, Lucille, second only to the Lord. He never said a bad word about anyone.
