Erika Monique Lucas, born on the 20th of July 1980, in Houston, Texas, passed away on the 6th of May 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, deep faith, and meaningful connections. A devoted mother, beloved daughter, and loyal friend, Erika touched the lives of all who knew her with her infectious laugh, strong spirit, and unwavering Christian faith.
Erika is survived by her daughter, Alexandra McGilberry; her mother, Viki Anderson, and stepfather, Gary Anderson; her father, Sam J. Lucas III and his wife, Melanie Lucas; her sister, Nicole Lucas (spouse Tamra Meyer) and their children, Lucas and Joanna, and many extended family members and dear friends.
Erika had a remarkable gift for connection and never let distance or time stand in the way of reaching out to those she loved. Known for her sharp memory and thoughtful nature, she was often the one to pick up the phone and check in.
Her love for animals was a defining part of her life. Over the years, she worked as a vet tech and a pet sitter, forming lasting bonds with both animals and their owners. She had a special compassion for strays and took pride in fostering and caring for pets in need. Her home was filled with the animals she adored, including dogs, cats, and even guinea pigs. She is lovingly remembered by the pets she leaves behind—four cats and her sweet dog, Gypsy.
Her most cherished legacy is her daughter, Alexandra. Erika and Alexandra shared a deep bond, and she was immensely proud of the young woman Alexandra was becoming. She spoke often of Alexandra’s bright future and held a deep hope that her daughter would continue to grow, thrive, and pursue her dreams with confidence and faith. Above all, Erika’s love for Alexandra was unconditional and enduring, a love that will continue to guide and surround her in the years ahead.
In recent years, Erika deepened her faith, developing a profound love for Jesus that brought her strength and peace, especially throughout the challenges of the past year. During her illness, her faith became an anchor. She turned to prayer daily, finding comfort in Scripture and reassurance in God’s presence, and she openly shared that faith with others. Even in difficult moments, Erika’s trust in the Lord never wavered.
Erika will be remembered for being a great friend and mother, her laughter, honesty, and her love for animals. She was a steadfast and loyal friend, and she will be dearly missed. May she rest in peace, embraced by God’s love.
