Ernst Jan Schotborgh passed away on Wednesday, September 21 at his home in Houston. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer, son-in-law David, grandchildren Jose Ernesto Cova and Gabriela Cova Roberts (Gaby), Benjamin Hampton, Robert Hampton, and Katherine Hampton, great-grandsons Caleb Hampton and Brody Hampton, granddaughter Bowie Josephine Hampton and sister-in-law Elba Schotborgh . He is predeceased by his wife Emily Violet Schotborgh, son Ernst Jan Bernard Schotborgh (Johnny), and Monique Schotborgh. He grew up in Curacao where he enjoyed swimming and free diving/fishing in the sea and represented the Dutch Caribbean Islands in basketball.
Jan was an accountant for Sun Oil and later Corpoven in Maracaibo, Venezuela. He was a passionate tennis player and participated in many inter-club tennis tournaments. He and Emily moved to Punto Fijo after he retired from Corporven in 1998 to be near his daughter, Monique and grandchildren, Jose Ernesto, and Gaby. He moved to Houston in 2017, as a result of the worsening situation in Venezuela.
