Ervin Victor Fishbeck, Jr.

March 18, 1948February 27, 2019

Ervin Victor Fishbeck, Jr. went Home to be with the Lord on February 27, 2019. He was born March 18, 1948 and raised in Houston, Texas. He went on to graduate from St. Pius X High School.

Ervin proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War Era. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed all types of hunting and had a great passion for freshwater fishing and saltwater fishing. He was happiest wherever he could find a watering hole. He loved his family very much and some of his fondest memories involved reading stories to all of his Grandkids and taking them places to have fun adventures. Nothing made him happier than playing with his Grandkids. Ervin liked to take short trips, no matter which direction he went, and would stop at any historical markers he could find to read them. There were times he would make a quick U-turn just to see what happened at that spot. He loved history and wanted to immerse himself in it as often as possible. He made a living as a truck driver, hauling drillpipes to rig sites and hauling different types of concrete powder and pellets to all types of places - in town and out of town.

Ervin was preceded in death by his father Ervin Victor Fishbeck, Sr., mother Virginia Faye Blaschke, brother Gerard (Gary) Fishbeck, and sister Yvonne Fishbeck Daut.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Susan Howe Fishbeck; step-children Eric, Tammi, and Troy Schenck, who he raised as his own; grandkids Chelsey, Wyatt, Cheyenne, Patrick, and Jeremiah Schenck; great-grandkids Enola and NoraMae Schenck; siblings Ronald & Jesse, Patricia & Raymond Dirba, Christopher & Debbie Fishbeck, Sandra & Matt Kresse, Joseph Fishbeck, Cheryl & Robert Burt, Janet & Bill Dirba, and Carol & David Oberrender; brother-in law Fred & Sheryll Howe; sister-in-law Sheryl Ann DeWitt; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was also a longtime friend of Bill Wilson.

The best friends you can have are those who know your secrets and love you anyway. Ervin was that kind of friend for me, as I was for him, for almost 20 years. We shared triumphs and tragedies together, laughed at the same corny humor and each other's humanity. I was blessed to be in a sort of advisor role for him, and can attest that Ervin almost never did anything he was not absolutely sure was in the best interest of his sobriety and family without checking it out with me and other trusted friends first. He helped many newcomers struggling with staying on the path to health and spiritual growth, not only by sharing his own remarkable story but encouraging them to speak up and get connected. Ervin was always a role model for me in the way he believed in and trusted God to look after everyone, and was antidote to my skepticism about faith and prayer. I admired his courage in facing and accepting his illnesses and mortality, and am a better person for having been his friend. Thank you for sharing your Ervin with me and my family.
