three sisters and a brother grew up barefoot and happy. Her family relocated to
Realitos, Texas just before her senior year of high school; she graduated valedictorian of her
class and went on to college in Corpus Christi where she met her husband Gerald Alva Hart.
When their two daughters were only 4 and 5 years old, she and Gerald relocated to Caracas,
Venezuela. Overcoming the challenge of not speaking the language, she raised her daughters
and made the most of her experiences there. She was heard to refer to these as the best years
of her life. In 1963, the family returned to Humble, Texas. She lived in the home they built there until she
died. During her life, she worked tirelessly to help build a successful business, benefiting many
people along the way. She never shrank from adversity or hesitated to assist people in need,
both family and friends. Her advice, generosity, and wisdom changed too many lives to list.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Orville Jarrard; her brother, Bubba Jarrard;
her sister, Pearl Lacy; and her husband, Gerald.
She is survived by her sisters, Jean Mann and Betty Mann; her daughters, Judie Wertz, Carrie
Rice, and Essie East; her sons-in-law, Tommy Rice and Scott East; her grandsons and their
wives, Gerald and Dawn Wertz, Angel and Amber Hart, and Joshua and Jackie Wertz; her
granddaughter and her husband Liberty and Chris Hill; and her great-grandchildren, Athen Hart,
Calem Hart, Talis Hart, Zoey Wertz, and Gavin Wertz.
We will all miss her wit and wisdom, her kindness of spirit, and her tremendous domino skills.
