

Esther Chung-Hui Lai Hung went to be with the Lord on August 19th, 2017 in Sugar Land, TX at the age of 77. She was born on July 15th, 1940 to Ju-Mu and Lee-Kuai Lai in Douliu, Taiwan. She was the 2nd child among 7 siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers Seng-Lie Lai and Seng-Hsing Lai. She is survived by her younger brother, Seng-Ding Lai of Jiayi, Taiwan; youngest brother Seng-Yuan Lai of Taichung; older sister Chung-Ming (Ruth) Hsieh of Doraville, GA; and youngest sister Chung-Yia Hsiao of Tucker, GA.
自幼隨母信靠基督,在斗六教會主日學受造,秉性善良,樂於助人。在校好學,成績優秀。1964年自台北關渡基督書院英文系畢業後,任教於台中惠明盲校。1966年出國留學,在密西根州大急流城改革宗聖經學院深造基督教教育。1970年在亞特蘭大的大學取得圖書館學碩士學位。
Led by her mother, Esther became a Christian at a young age and attended Sunday school at Douliu Church, where she learned and studied the Bible. She was kind and always glad to offer help to people. She was a remarkable student with outstanding grades in school. Esther earned a degree in Western Literature and English at Christ College in Taipei, Taiwan in 1964 and taught at the Blind Children’s Institute in Taichung. She moved to the United States in 1966 to study Christian Education at the Reformed Bible College in Grand Rapids, MI. Esther then attended Atlanta University in 1970 and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Library Science.
與丈夫洪土山先生婚後曾經營冰淇淋店三年,維持家計。生意結束,先後在牛津小學、哥倫比亞神學院、胡華德小學、布洛克特小學擔任不同教職。與丈夫育有一女洪慧如住北卡羅里、一子洪海峯住德州凱堤,悉已婚適。故人一生持守基督信仰,並以此教育子女。有孫女二人,外孫二人承歡膝下。丈夫在2000年別逝。
After marrying Tu-Shan Hung, Esther and her husband ventured into owning and running an ice cream shop (Dipper Dan) from 1980-1983. She has worked at Oxford Elementary, Columbia Seminary, Woodward Elementary, and Brockett Elementary in various teaching roles in Atlanta. Esther and Tu-Shan bore and raised two children: daughter Gloria Fan of Raleigh, NC and son Daniel Hung of Katy, TX. She has followed Jesus faithfully her whole life and educated her children with the teachings of the Bible. She has enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren: Isaac Fan, Evelyn Hung, Ian Fan, and Elyssa Hung. Her husband passed away in 2000.
2000年自喬州布洛克特小學退休,2003年遷到德州舒格蘭城獨居。退休後在兩地都積極投入志願工作,在教會為新移民從事英語教育事工,並參加各種聚會及查經班。每日禱告讀經,與神親近。
Esther retired from Brockett Elementary in 2000 and has lived alone in Sugar Land, TX since 2003. In both Atlanta and Sugar Land, she taught Citizenship and English as a Second Language classes as a volunteer. She also has participated in church activities and a Bible study group. She read the Bible and prayed to God daily.
她的離去,留給我們無盡的懷念。
Esther will be remembered for her steadfast devotion to serving Christ as well as her missional love for God, family, and friends.
